downtown-bladenboro-ready-for-beast-festThe town of Bladenboro was hit hard by Hurricane Matthew, but the storm has not dampened the spirits of the organizers. The 10th annual Bladenboro Beast Fest organized by members of Boost the Boro, Inc. is still on go for this coming weekend, October 28th, and 29th of 2016.

The last meeting of the Beast Fest committee last week allowed the group to tie up all the loose ends, and to be filmed by UNC-TV. The media outlet has been filming the organizational part of the festival and plans to film part of the festival this coming weekend to air the Bladenboro Best Fest as part of their series, “Real South”, a show documenting the culture of the southern states in the US. 

The show will be aired on UNC-TV and PBS according to Orlando de Guzman, a producer with the network, but the show times and dates are still to be determined.

Volunteers from Boost the Boro has been cleaning up the downtown since last Friday and Saturday. Monday the fruits of the citizens could be seen with Beast Fest banners, orange bows and corn stalks as decoration.

This year the event is bigger than ever starting on Friday at 6 pm the fun will begin with “Honey Don’t” band, street dance and food vendors.


The Beast Fest Fun Run is still in need of runners. Participants will meet at the Bladenboro Town Hall. Registration fee is $25.

Southeastern Cruisers will host the Beast of Bladenboro Car Show with registration starting at 8 am until noon. Awards will be given away at 3 pm.

On Saturday, festivities will kick off with opening ceremonies and the arrival of the Bladenboro Beast at 10 a.m. Live entertainment will take lace on the stage throughout the day including performances by Brenda Storms; Nick Peavy; the Band Recovery; Lori Guyton; Marlie Walters; the Rev. Victor Singletary and the Round Branch Male Chorus; Meghan and Jackson Pait; Lauren Clark/Lauren’s Zumba Dancers/Colby Wright and Vicki Clark (Biggest  Looser Contestants); Miss NC Outstanding Teen Catherine White introduced by Dan Allen; Peggy Kelly, Jake and Jamey Ward; Christian and Kennedy Johnson; Alyssa Bell; Julia Deavers; Rodney Lowe; the “Golden Platter” Milton Bullock; Carolina Karate; music and dancing.

At 2:30 p.m. there will be a Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume contest followed by a Children’s Halloween Costume Contest. Kids will also enjoy a Trunk or Treat thanks to a local church.

At 7 p.m. Gary Lowder and Smokin’ Hot of Myrtle Beach will perform. The band is known as a Soul, R&B party band. They play a variety of music from the 50s, 60s and Carolina Beach music.
