Cowell is Guest Speaker
at Annual Chamber Meeting
NC State Treasurer Janet Cowell
was the guest speaker for the 58th Annual
Elizabethtown- White Lake Chamber of Commerce,
Tuesday evening at Lu Mil Vineyard.
She updated the approximately
175 attendees on the financial affairs of the state.
She spoke about the status of the retirement pools
and about her efforts to make sure they were sound.
She was introduced by NC Sen.
Margaret Dickson.
Numerous awards were presented.
Robin Summerlin was presented the "Outstanding
Chamber Member Award," Minnie Price was presented
the "Caring Person Award', Robert G. Hester was
presented the "Outstanding Small Business Award" for
BLADENONLINE.
The Honorary Lifetime Chamber
Member Award was presented to the family of the late
Manly Clark, Jr.
Dr. Bill Young, was presented a
special award for his many contributions to the
community. He recently announced he was leaving the
Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church to become pastor
of Sneads Ferry Presbyterian Church.
Allen Johnson presided over the
Annual Event and expressed his thanks for support
over the past year. He recognized 3 board
members who are retiring. They included Denise
Bridgers, Rich Glenn and Jeff Shipp.
Scott Walters is the new
President, Paul Norris is President Elect.
Board members for the upcoming year include Denise
Cross, Seth Campbell, Carolyn Walters, Toni Fisher,
Kristi Coleson, Allen Johnson and Trey Duncan.
Ex-Officio Directors include;
Eddie Madden, Brenda Clark, Mayor Goldston Womble,
Jr., Mayor Sylvia Campbell, Chuck Heustess and Greg
Martin.
Dawn Maynard, Chamber Executive
Director, made closing remarks asking for continued
support for the Chamber. New memberships are
due and numerous projects are planned.
Maynard, Johnson and Walters
were obviously pleased with the huge turnout for the
occasion.
