Town of
White Lake
Board of Commissioners
Regular Meeting
July 2010
The Town of White Lake
Board met
Tuesday night with a short agenda.
A Public Hearing was held for Hilstar
Industries Inc. Map Amendment request.
Dean
Hilton with Hilstar Industries
requested to rezone two parcels on Hwy 53
owned by Mr. Ibrahim N. Oudeh from R1 to
(Permanent Residential) to R2 (Recreational
Residential). The Planning Board has
made a recommendation to approve the
request. Several residents spoke
against the change. The Board reviewed
the documents and found the map amendment
inconsistent with the objectives, goals and
policies in the adopted Land Use Plan; and,
the map amendment is not in the public
interest at this time.
In administrative
matters, as required by the Town Ordinances,
the Commissioners made appointments to the
following officers: Mayor
Pro Tempore –
Tom Riel, Town Clerk – Brenda Clark,
Chief of Police
– Bruce Smith, Town Attorney – Clif Hester,
Tax Collector –
Patsy Teachey, Deputy Finance Officer –
Kathy Iwerks, Water/Wastewater
Superintendent/Zoning Inspector – Tim Frush,
Fire Chief/Safety Director – Dale Brennan,
and Budget Officer – Mayor Womble.
The Utility Release of
$28.15 for Larry Gore was denied due to no
explanation for the overage. The
Commissioners approved
Business Licenses
Releases, Tax Releases/Refunds, Fire Service
Contract,
FEMA Designated
Applicant Agent (Brenda Clark),
Water Shortage
Response Plan, and adopted an International
ACH Transactions Rules Protocol Policy as
presented. They also accepted the Tax
Collector’s Annual Settlement Report for FY
2009/10. Joey Taylor was reappointed
as a member of the Planning and Zoning Board
of Adjustment for a three-year term.
Jennifer Iwerks, a
student of the
North Carolina School of Science and
Mathematics,
shared information she has compiled
regarding
Canadian Geese
– Please Do Not Feed the Canadian Geese!
Refusing to feed the geese is one of the
safest and easiest ways to encourage them to
migrate elsewhere. The Board thanked
her for the information and agreed to help
distribute a flyer to residents.
Timberlodge Village
resident, Roger
Teachey, spoke to the
Commissioners regarding the need for speed
bumps in their neighborhood. The
Homeowner’s Association has voted to solicit

to get on the agenda for an upcoming
