Two Elizabethtown men were arrested Wednesday on drug and weapons charges after a search of a house on South Lower Street, Elizabethtown interim Police Chief Kip Hester said.

Brandon Quinnard Ward of the 400 block of South Lower Street was charged with probation violation, possession of a firearm by a felon, trafficking opium, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $66,000.

Patrick Tremaine Rhodie, who jumped out a window of the house when officers arrived and was chased down and captured, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, trafficking opium, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine, manufacture cocaine, sell cocaine, deliver cocaine and resisting a public officer. His bond was set at $127,500.

Rhodie had outstanding narcotics-related warrants on him from a street level narcotics investigation conducted by the Elizabethtown Police Department and the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, Hester said.

The arrests took place about 6 p.m. Wednesday when officers went to Ward’s residence on Lower Street to conduct a warrantless search, Hester said. Ward is on probation and subject to warrantless searches, Hester said.

Officers found Ward at the residence. While detaining Ward, officers heard Rhodie jumping out a window and gave chase, Hester said.

During the search of the house, officers found a semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, oxycodone, and drug paraphernalia in Ward’s bedroom, Hester said. Officers also found a small amount of what appeared to be cocaine that apparently had been discarded by Rhodie during the chase, Hester said.
