Feb. 23.....Are you a stressed out young mom?  Help is available...You are invited to a meeting at the Bladen County Health Department.  Learn effective ways of handling stress from Marjorie Walker, a Victim Advocate of Families First, Inc.  Contact Jessica Graham at 872-4061 for details.  The meeting is Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 5:30 PM.  Refreshments will be served.

       

Feb. 23......North Carolina author Mark de Casterique will will be at the Bladen County library in Elizabethtown, Thursday, February 23rd at 6 PM.  Mark writes mysteries about an undertaker in western North Carolina.  You are invited to an evening of grave discussions about NC local characters and mystery. 

 

Feb 24......Team Royalty will host another Night of Hope this Friday night, February 24 at The Front Porch Restaurant in Elizabethtown.  The team is asking everyone to come out and support Relay For Life by simply dining between 4pm-9pm.  A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to Relay For Life of Bladen County.  The team would also like to express their gratitude to all the restaurants in Elizabethtown who have signed on as a Night of Hope sponsor.  Other restaurants and business in and around the county who would like to get involved should contact Michelle Fisher at 910-991-6299.

   

Feb. 25....Bladenboro High School's 3rd Annual Alumni basketball game to benefit the Bladenboro Middle School will be held Saturday, February 25 beginning at 6:30 PM.  Admission is $5.00.  Proceeds from the game will go to the Bladenboro Middle School Jr. Beta Club's trip to the National Convention in Greensboro.  Everyone is invited to come out to play, cheer or just watch the action.  Hats and t-shirts will be available for purchase and a concession stand will be open.

 

Feb 26....Grace Baptist Drama Team presents...."The Telltale Talent" skit ...some things just won't stay buried. You are invited.  It's Sunday Night, February 26 at 6:00 pm.

March 2........ The Clarkton School of Discovery PTSA will be sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner and Showcase night, spotlighting the CSD Jr. Beta Club. and their recent achievements at the state convention.  Plates are $7.00 and will be available for pick-up beginning at 4:30. In house dinner will begin at 5:45 with a performance highlighting the club at 7:00. All proceeds will go toward their trip to the National convention this summer. March 3.....The 3rd Annual Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce Pancake Fundraiser will be held at the Front Porch Restaurant. All you can eat, Pancakes and Sausage.  Proceeds assist Chamber Events....

   

March 3.....A BBQ benefit is planned for March 3rd beginning at 4 PM at the Bladenboro Historical Building.  BBQ plates will be $6 each, a cake sale auction begins at 5:30 PM.  The benefit is for 4 individuals who need support..including Stephanie Burney, Wanda Smith, Billy Ray Benson and Teresa Ransom.  Everyone is invited....

   

Mar 3.....The Annual West Bladen Booster Club golf tournament is set for Saturday, March 3 at Carolina Sands.  Registration begins at 10 am, and tee time is 11 am.  It will be a captains choice format.  Call Greg Sykes at 910-879-8502 for details.  Booster club members will also be selling raffle tickets for a golf cart.  Tickets are $10 each, the drawing will be held March 3rd.

 

March 8....An Election Symposium is planned for March 8, 2012 at 4 PM in the Bladen County District Courtroom in Elizabethtown. The Symposium is a joint effort on the part of DA Jon David, Bladen County Board of Elections and the State Board of Elections. Gary Bartlett, Executive Director of the NC Board of Elections, will be speaking on the voting process, including the absentee voting process.  Elected officials, candidates and the general public are encouraged to attend and participate as we approach the 2012 election.  For more information, contact the Bladen County Board of Elections at (910)862-6951, weekdays 8:30 AM until 5 PM.

   

March 17-18.....The Cape Fear Farm Heritage Association will hold its 4th Annual Southern Farm Days on March 17th and 18th at the Boys and Girls Home horse complex at Lake Waccamaw, NC.  Some events will include Civil and Revolutionary War encampments, antique tractor pull (Saturday), draft horse pull (Sunday), border collie herding, Indian culture demonstrations, mule plowing, and live entertainment.  Gates open a 9am and close at 5pm each day. March 30 & 31......1st Annual West Bladen Tennis Tournament Open, March 30th & 31st Play is open to anyone $20.00 per single's entry and $15.00 per person for double's entry. All proceeds to benefit the Lady Knights tennis team. Any questions contact Coach Jeff Atkinson at 910-863-3055

   

March 31...... Singletary UMC located at 241 3rd Street in Dublin, NC, invites everyone to their first annual Easter Festival March 31st from 5pm until 8:30pm. The Easter Festival will include games, food, bounce houses, prizes, the Easter Story, music, and will conclude with the area’s first ever Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt. April 6&7....The Annual Spring & Grow Pig Cook-off is scheduled for April 6 & 7 at Lu Mil Vineyard. Numerous activities are planned.  "Anything Butt BBQ," will be held Friday night, BBQ plates will be sold sold on Saturday with proceeds going to Relay for Life.  Another Friday night feature this year is The Tam's performing outdoors....For more information...including entry form, rules, regulations for the Anything Butt BBQ and info on the Tams and all other festivities, contact Becky Packer at 910-862-2576 or email beckyn@intrstar.net.

 

April 22....REVIVAL at Friendship Baptist Church will begin on Sunday night, April 22 and run thru Friday night, April 27.  Services will begin at 6:30 pm on Sunday night, 4/22 and at 7 pm Monday - Friday nights.  Rev. Bruce Cannon will bring the messages on Sunday thru Tuesday and Rev. Carlton Bryan will bring the message Wednesday thru Friday nights.  There will be special singing nightly.  The church is located at 1989 Bull Street in Garland NC.  Make plans to come and worship with us.   For more information, contact Rev. April 26......Bladen We Care's Annual Golf tournament is scheduled for Thursday, April 26, at Carolina Sands Golf Course near White Lake. May 4......The Annual Bladenboro Rotary Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, May 4th at Land O Lakes.  Registration and lunch will begin at 12:00, a shotgun start at 1:00 and a dinner following play.  This is a Captains Choice format.  Proceeds from this tournament go toward funding scholarships for West Bladen High School students.  The entry fee for a team is only $240 ($60/player) and this includes your round of golf, lunch and dinner.  Contact Glenn @ 674-1995 to enter your team.

Bladen County Shrine Club meets at the Woodman of the World building on Highway 242 just north of Elizabethtown on the first Thursday of the month. All members are encouraged to attend, including anyone interested in joining.

 

Bladen Lodge 646 (AF & AM) meets at 106 South Cypress Street in Elizabethtown on the 2nd Monday and 4th Monday night of the month. The meeting on the 2nd Monday starts at 6:30pm with dinner served. The meeting on the 4th Monday starts at 7:30pm.

 

Bladenboro Rotary Club meets at the Bladenboro Community Building every Monday at 6:30pm.
