Test results released September 1, 2016 show gains in many areas for the Columbus County Schools District. Topping the list, Old Dock Elementary earned an Overall Achievement Score of 79, which is the highest score of any public school or public charter school in the area. ODES is also the only K-8 public school or public charter school in the county with a School Performance Grade of “B,” which is a computation of achievement and growth factors.

Several other schools earned Overall Achievement Scores of 60 or above. These schools are Acme-Delco Elementary, Cerro Gordo Elementary, East Columbus High School, Nakina Middle School, South Columbus High School, and Columbus Career and College Academy.

Many schools posted remarkable growth. Sixteen of eighteen schools in the district showed improved scores from last year. Acme Delco Elementary posted a 19 point gain from 2014-2015. Guideway Elementary posted an 18 point gain; Old Dock Elementary posted a 15 point gain; Hallsboro Middle School posted a 13 point gain and Chadbourn Elementary School posted an 11 point gain. Thirteen schools in the district met growth targets, while two schools, Chadbourn Middle and Hallsboro Middle exceeded growth.

Columbus Career and College Academy is the only “B” high school in the county with a School

Performance Grade of 71. CCCA also has the highest ACT results. WorkKeys results reflected growth from all four high schools. CCCA was first with a 93 composite score, East Columbus was second with a 78, West Columbus was third with a 74, and South Columbus was fourth with a score of 73.

“We are pleased with the results released by the state yesterday,” says Superintendent Alan Faulk. “Our schools are growing and achieving, and as a district we feel these results prove that our schools are the best choice for the parents of Columbus County.”

The gains in test scores have allowed Columbus County Schools to be removed from Low Performing District status. In addition, East Columbus High, Acme Delco Elementary, Guideway Elementary, and Hallsboro Middle were removed from Low Performing School status.
