Three Things to KnowThree things to know for Wednesday, July 20

1. Elizabethtown’s Cade Hancock is scheduled to participate in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida beginning July 25. Cade, who will compete in the 14-15-year-old division, will be among 660 golfers from around the world playing at PGA National Resort. Cade’s parents are Jim and Polly Hancock.

2. Gov. Pat McCrory has ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities remain lowered at half-staff through sunset Friday to honor the life and service of the Baton Rouge Police Department officers who were killed July 17. “This tragic incident involving the killing of police officers in Baton Rouge is another example of the danger our law enforcement officers face every day in communities across our nation,” McCrory said. “Ann and I are praying for the families of these fallen officers who were murdered while simply doing their job.” Sadly, it’s difficult to remember the last time flags weren’t at half-staff.

3. The Bladen County Democrat Party is scheduled to meet on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Bladen County Public Library in Elizabethtown. All Democrats are invited. For information, call 1st Vice Chair Althea Lesane at 910-922-9155.
