1. The 13 Bladen County schools have scheduled open houses Thursday. Here are the times:
1-6 p.m.: Bladen Lakes Primary; 1-7 p.m.: East Bladen High; 2-6 p.m.: Elizabethtown Primary; 3-5 p.m.: Plain View Primary; 4-6 p.m.: Clarkton School of Discovery, Dublin Elementary and Tar Heel Middle; 4-6:30 p.m.: Bladenboro Middle; 4-7 p.m.: Bladenboro Primary; 4:30-6:30 p.m.: Booker T. Washington Primary; 4:30-7 p.m.: Elizabethtown Middle; 5-7 p.m.: East Arcadia Elementary and West Bladen High.
2. Today is National Aviation Day. It’s a day to celebrate the history and development of aviation. It’s always celebrated on Orville Wright’s birthday and was proclaimed in 1939 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
3. Bladen County veterans will have two chances this month to enroll in the VA health care system and receive health information about various services available to them when representatives of the Fayetteville VA Medical Center Rural Health Outreach team visit Whiteville on Friday and Aug. 26.
