Three Things to KnowGood morning! 3 things to know for Monday, August 24

1. Mark your calendar for Thursday’s Summer Sounds Concert at the Cape Fear Farmers Market in Elizabethtown. Bladen County’s own Blackwater Rhythm & Blues band will perform beginning at 6 p.m. It’s the last in the four-concert series that’s been a tremendous success.

2. Nine years ago today, the International Astronomical Union voted to demote Pluto to dwarf planet status. Why, you ask? It’s because Pluto has not “cleared the neighborhood” around its orbit. What does that mean, you ask? According to The Library of Congress, it means that the planet has become gravitationally dominant — there are no other bodies of comparable size, other than its own satellites or those otherwise under its gravitational influence, in its vicinity in space. What does that mean, you ask? Hey, you’re asking too many questions.

3. Bladen Online now has 3,284 Facebook likes, 835 Twitter followers and 169 Instagram followers. Guess what? We’ve reserved a spot especially for you, so come join. It’s facebook.com/BladenOnline, @BladenOnline, and instagram.com/bladenonline. See you there.

And now you know.
