Three Things to KnowGood morning! 3 things to know for Thursday, August 27

1. The last in the Summer Sounds Concert series is today at the Cape Fear Farmers Market in Elizabethtown. Bladen County’s own Blackwater Rhythm & Blues band will perform beginning at 6 p.m. Be there or be square.

2. It was four years ago today that Hurricane Irene brushed the Cape Fear region before making landfall at Cape Lookout. In Bladen County, there were reports of downed trees, about 3 inches of rain, and wind gusts up to 58 mph. Also, as many as 5,000 customers lost power at some point during the storm, some for more than a day. However, Bladen County was spared the worst of the storm, although crops were damaged.

3. Today, supposedly, is “Just Because Day,” a day set aside to do something you want to do just because you want to do it. So, enjoy whatever. Just don’t turn tomorrow into “Wish I Had Not Done That Day.”

And now you know.
