Bladen County Planner Greg Elkins updated the Bladen County Board of Commissioners regarding a hazard mitigation program that allows for the removal of debris related to a Hurricane Matthew.
Elkins said the program will pay for such things as road washouts agriculture ponds that washed out and such.
Elkins said county staff have ridden  to several parts of county and have spent time in the East Arcadia area and South River and traveled on NC 210 looking for storm related damage. Elkins said it is difficult to tell in some instances what damage is related to Hurricane Matthew and what is not.
He said this particular program is very specific in that everything must be related to the Hurricane Mathew. He said the deadline for the application is March 6.
“We are really asking if residents know of particular areas that need to be looked at to let us know,” said Elkins.
He also updated the board on the Bladenboro/Butters/Richardson project. He said the older ditches have been cleaned and some of the lateral ditches have also been cleaned. Elkins added that a culvert has been replaced on Webb-Faulk Road.
In other business, the board tabled apppintments for the Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee, Bladen County Nursing Home Advisory Committee, Spitheastern Community & Family Services, Inc. Board of Directors.
The Board appointed Dr Rich to the Health and Human Services Board.
Bladen County Manager Greg Martin updated the board regarding a contract revision for the Lock and Dam No. 2 and No. 3 fish passages. Martin said that  additional alternatives totaling about $800,000 have been suggested. They include
Biological monitoring for two spring seasons and additional outreach and education.
Martin said the additional requirements will require an amendment to the agreement with Moffat Nichols. The board approved the measure.
14. The Board met in closed session for about 30 minutes to discuss matters of industry/economic development and personnel. In open session no action was taken regarding the matter.
