The Bladen County Board of Commissioners met on Monday night and recognized several employees for their years of service to the county. Some employees were not able to attend the meeting.

Recognized were:

Chamonia Buie for 5 years of service to the county. Bladen County DSS Director Vickie Smith said that Buie came to Bladen DSS as a temporary employee but soon became permanent. Smith said that Buie  began a new position in the food stamp unit Monday.

Sylvia Charles was recognized for 10 years of service to the county.

Smith said Charles came to DSS in income maintenance in the food and nutrition services unit.

Emily Bronson was recognized for 25 years of service to the county.

Smith said that Bronson had been with DSS for 25 years. Bronson started as a receptionist and is now part of adult services. She is currently an intake worker taking reports of abuse and neglect of adults.

Wanda Monroe  was recognized for 20 years of service with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Jim McVicker said Monroe started at the jail and got her BLET training and was promoted to school resource officer. Monroe was most recently promoted to corporal.

“I’m very proud of her,” said Sheriff McVicker.

Monroe said she has enjoyed her time at the Sheriff’s Office.

Others who could not attend were Michael McGavock with Division on Aging for five years of service; Jennifer Dunham with DSS for five years of service; Cathy Mazur of DSS for 20 years of service; Sharon McGavock with DSS for 25 years of service; Cereca Newkirk with DSS for 30 years of service; Glenda Bagwell with EMS for five years of service; Stephen Hester with EMS for five years of service; Marion Moore with EMS for five years of service; Donna Cagle with EMS for 10 years of service; Lisa Britt with Bladen County Health Department for five years of service; Twanna Lewis with Bladen County Health Department for 15 years of service; Leigh Cromartie with the Bladen County Public Library for five years of service; and Tramain Harvey with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years of service.

In other business, the Commissioners held a public hearing to receive comments regarding the FY 2017-18 Community Transportation Program grant. No one spoke on the matter.
