A message from Dr. Robert Taylor Bladen County Schools Superintendent was distributed on their Facebook page this evening. The following was posted in reference to the schools schedules:

“Good evening Bladen County Schools’ families, this is Dr. Taylor, school superintendent. After careful evaluation of road conditions we have determined that students can return to school on Thursday. Schools and school staff will have a 2 hour delay on Thursday and Friday of this week, then returning to a regular schedule on Monday, October 24. A 2 hour delay has been implemented to allow drivers enough daylight to safely navigate roads. Additionally, this decision was made in consideration of potential hazardous road conditions and for the safety of students, and a large number of employees who are still displaced.

The Bladen County Schools Transportation Department is also in the process of developing alternate routes in areas where roads are closed or impassable. Alternate routes will be made available by Wednesday. In some cases, parents may be required to drop students at a designated bus stop due to a bus’s inability to navigate portions of its route. We ask that parents be patient with transportation issues, as these road conditions are changing daily, and may require amendments to temporary routes.

Bladen County Schools employees will report on the following schedule:
Monday, October 17th – Optional Workday
Tuesday, October 18th – Optional Workday
Wednesday, October 19th – Required Workday

We ask that Bladen County citizens continue to use caution as they navigate roads. The NCDOT is working to ensure that all roads are safe. A number of roads remain flooded or are impassable.”
