USDAThe Bladen County Department of Social Services will be taking Disaster Food & Nutrition Services applications through Wednesday at five locations. The program offers eligible applicants who were impacted by Hurricane Matthew to receive short-term food assistance. The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved the program for Bladen and 17 other North Carolina counties earlier this week.

Bladen DSS will take applications for the D-SNAP program from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday at the following locations:

** Bladen County Department of Social Services, 208 East McKay Street, Elizabethtown

** Powell Melvin Agricultural Center, 450 Smith Circle, Elizabethtown

** Bladenboro Fire Department, 519 West Seaboard Street, Bladenboro

** Lower Bladen County Communities Citizens Group Building, Kelly

** Tar Heel Fire Department, 269 Tar Heel Ferry Road, Tar Heel

Applicants will not be able to receive D-SNAP benefits if they are current recipients in the Food & Nutrition Program.

Verification of identity is mandatory for the head of household and authorized representative. This can be in the form of a picture ID or any other form of identification. This proof may include, but is not limited to, Social Security card, mail, or collateral statement. Identity is the only eligibility factor that must be verified.

Applicants are required to tell the truth when requesting benefits. All applications are subject to an audit. If someone receives benefits which they are not entitled to, they will be required to pay back the benefits. If an application breaks  the Food & Nutrition Services rules they may be disqualified from the program, fined up to $250,000 and/or put in jail for up to 20 years.
