Ibrahim_RoseThe work week began with a search in the Elizabethtown and Dublin area for a man wanted for a parole violation in New York. Members of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabethtown Police Department and N.C. Highway Patrol hiked through woods and searched from the air by helicopter Monday, Nov. 16, but could not locate Ibrahim Rose.

Law enforcement believe he got a ride out of the area. Rose had been convicted of attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance and attempted assault in New York.

Rose had been spotted Nov. 16 near the Elizabethtown ABC store. He escaped captured, which led to the search late into the evening.

Taxes also were in the news — a sales tax, that is. The Bladen County Board of Commissioners met Monday, Nov 16 and voted to put a quarter-cent sales tax referendum on the March primary ballot. The funds would be used to reduce the property tax by “at least two cents.” It won’t be the first time the referendum has been on the ballot. The quarter-cent sales tax has been voted down at least three times since 2010.
