Bladenboro

The Bladenboro Town Council met Monday night and addressed the matter of paving East Railroad Street and Harmony Homes Drive.

Councilwoman Sarah Jane Benson said that she would rather see Pecan Street paved rather than Harmony Homes Drive.

“It (Pecan Street) is in bad shape,” said Benson.

Town Clerk Melanie Hester told the board the cost for paving Pecan Street may be different than the cost for paving Harmony Homes Drive.

A motion was made to pave East Railroad Street and put out a request for bids for paving Pecan Street.

Councilman Billy Ray Benson asked if it would be better to wait until the town staff receive all of the bids before making any final decisions.

After further discussion on the matter, the board voted to approve paving East Railroad Street and seeking bids for the paving of Pecan Street.

In a related matter, the board voted to award the contract for paving East Railroad Street to Sykes Paving to pave the street using two inches of asphalt.
