The Bladenboro Town Board met on Monday night and after a closed session for personnel matters that lasted 46 minutes, the board voted in open session to hire Winfort Nichols.
Nichols comes to the Bladenboro Police Department after serving for 16 years with the Elizabethtown Police Department. He earned his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Mount Olive College. He also holds an Associate’s degree in Basic Education.
Prior to entering law enforcement, Nichols served 11 years in the military as a member of the National Guard.
When asked why he chose a career in law enforcement Nichols said, “I like helping people.”
He added he has also worked as a life skills coach for Community Innovations working with mentally challenged adults in their homes.
