The town of Bladenboro was filled with excitement as folks gathered at the Bladenboro Farmer’s Market on Friday evening for the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree. Cookies were prepared by New Light Church and the Bladenboro Rotary Club prepared and served hot chocolate to help ward off the cold.

The evening was warmed when Don White with Boost the ‘Boro got things started by calling on Bladenboro Mayor Rufus Duckworth who welcomed everyone to town. Rev. Bert Young gave the invocation.

Next Nick Peavy and Austin Stone entertained the crowd followed by Bladenboro Councilman Gene Norton who sang “A Little Country Church.” Kayla Walters sang “O Holy Night” and the Galeed Praise Team lead the crowd in Winter Wonderland and Silent Night before moving to the Christmas tree for the lighting ceremony.

Mayor Rufus Duckworth led the crowd to the tree located at the intersection of S. Main Street and West Seaboard Streets where he was assisted in flipping the switch by several young ladies. The crowd present counted down as the switch was flipped and lights went on.

The celebration will continue tomorrow morning with the Bladenboro Christmas Parade which will take place at 10:30 a.m.
