Bruce Cannon Southeastern Carolina CrossroadsBruce Cannon has announced he will be leaving the Bladen Baptist Association and Bladen County for a pastorate in the mountains of North Carolina. Cannon is heading to Bear Creek Baptist Church near Ledger. He said his last day will be near the end of March.

When asked on Monday about his decision, Cannon said, “I miss the pastorate.”

He added that he missed the interactions one has with a congregation and performing such rituals as serving communion.

Cannon added that the decision to leave has been bittersweet as he said he has made many friends here in Bladen County and that he will miss serving the people in the community.

He said that Bladen County is not the same place it was when he and his wife Wendy moved here several years ago. Cannon said he has witnessed both good and bad changes in the county in his time as director of missions for the Bladen Baptist Association.

Cannon said drug and alcohol abuse are on the rise especially in the Bladenboro. He said the creation of Carolina Crossroads is a program that is badly needed in the county.

He also noted the defeat of the countywide beer and wine referendum as a positive move for the county.

Cannon said that he has been carefully praying about the move and has spent about a year in talking with the members of Bear Creek Baptist Church. He said he has spoken there a couple of times in the past.

Cannon will be missed in Bladen County, but we wish him well.
