Brandon_CollinsBrandon Collins received a three-year sentence, with the first year in state custody, Tuesday for repeated charges of driving while impaired and driving with license revoked for impaired driving.

Senior Judge Douglas B. Sasser ordered Collins, 31, to two years of supervised probation after serving 12 months in custody during the session in Bladen County Superior Court. Collins will be given credit for time served in Bladen County Jail since being arrested in June 2015.

Court records show Collins also had been convicted of driving while impaired in 2013 and for driving with his license suspended indefinitely.

In a court summary, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and State Highway Patrol were conducting a license check about 2 a.m. on June 21, 2015 in Clarkton. Upon approaching the checkpoint, Collins pulled into a private drive. A state trooper went to investigate and noted a strong odor of alcohol upon approaching the vehicle. Collins also had red and glassy eyes, the trooper reported. Collins told the trooper that he had consumed a “few beers.” He then became irate before becoming apologetic, the trooper’s report showed. A field test showed Collins’ blood alcohol level at 1.5, which is almost twice above the legal limit to be able to operate a vehicle.
