The United Way 5K Color Fun Run and Walk was a great success Saturday. One of the event organizers, Bob Mundy announced at the start the participants had helped raise a lot of money for our local Bladen County United Way.

The event was held at the Industrial Park in Elizabethtown, with a start and finish line at Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery. Many local agencies and supporters helped pull off this second annual event in Bladen County. This year’s run was delayed from its original date of October 15 to a new date of Saturday, November 19, 2016.  The weather was beautiful and the families had a blast getting CRAZY and COLORFUL for a great cause.

Along the 5K run, members of the Keyettes from East Bladen High School tossed powdered color on the sun shade shielded eyes of color run participants of all ages – from strollers on up! This is by far the greatest part about this fundraiser event.  White shirts were multicolored by the end of the fun run.  Stewart Valentiner with Southeast Farm Equipment offered to “blow” the colored powder off of runners at the end of the race.  Runners and Walkers enjoyed a nutritious snack following the race with Janet Quick and the crew from Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery.

The proceeds of the event go to United Way of Bladen County. A local non-profit that meets many needs in our area. Initial estimated indicate that this year’s Crazy Fun Color Run and Walk will provide around $5000 in funding to causes supported by United Way in Bladen County.
