division-on-aging-offers-more-than-just-hot-lunchesThe Bladen County Division on Aging offers citizens more than a place to gather to have lunch.  There are many fun activities and programs that anyone 60 and over can take part in. Two upcoming programs offered by the Division on Aging include a Candlelight Reflections service and a Fall Festival.
 
There will be a candlelight Reflections Service at the Bladen County Division on Aging on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. Citizens of Bladen County are invited to come to the Division on Aging located at 608 McLeod Street in Elizabethtown. The service is designed to honor and support caregivers and to raise public awareness and hope for those who are living with or caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s or other chronic illnesses.
The Division on Aging will be hosting a Fall Festival on Friday, Nov. 4, from noon until 4 p.m. Barbecue plates can be purchased for $5 each. There will also be games to enjoy as well.
Division on Aging Director Kelly Robeson said that the Division on Aging is home to such programs as BARTS transportation, is part of a network of nutrition sites, also offers educational programs, and a host of fun activities such as the Senior Prom. 
The agency also offers  an In-Home Aide Level 1 program which provides support to individuals or families with such basics as light housekeeping, running errands and bill paying. 
BARTS transportation services is also housed in the Division on Aging. BARTS transportation services are generally utilized by seniors and  individuals with special needs, said BARTS Supervisor Kent Porter.  BARTS is also contracted by the Department of Social Services to perform Medicaid transportation as well. Porter said that BARTS provides transportation to and from medical appointments both in county and out of county. The cost to use BARTS is $1.50 one way and $3 round trip, said Porter.

The Division on Aging also offers nutrition program and is one of six nutrition sites located throughout the county.  The Nutrition sites are located at the Bladen County Senior Center, 608 McLeod Street, Elizabethtown; Baltimore Center, 2104 South Elwell Ferry Road, Council; Bladenboro Community Center, 109 Elm Street, Bladenboro; East Arcadia Nutrition Site, 1472 East Arcadia Road, Riegelwood; Kelly Nutrition, 1991 Lightwood Knot Road, Kelly; and Clarkton Nutrition Site, 81 North Elm Street, Clarkton. 
Some programming offered by the Division on Aging include such things as fall prevention classes, Diabetes awareness, and the SHIP program. 
 
Volunteers are also needed to assist in various areas for the Division on Aging.
