Bladen Community CollegeDUBLIN – Medical Director and physician for the Hospitalist Program at Bladen County Hospital, Dr. Pearly Berlette Graham-Hoskins, is the keynote commencement speaker at Bladen Community College’s curriculum graduation on May 19, 2015, at 7:30 PM.

With thirty-seven years of medical practice, Dr. Graham-Hoskins has served patients in a variety of settings, including three opportunities in the West Indies. Between September of 1978 and June of 1982, Dr. Graham-Hoskins was the House Officer in Psychiatry at St. Ann’s Hospital, Port-of-Spain, in Trinidad. She returned to Trinidad in 1984, serving three years as the Consultant Physician in Internal Medicine at the Port-of-Spain Adventist Hospital, while simultaneously in private practice in Internal Medicine in Diego Martin.

Between visits to the West Indies, Dr. Graham-Hoskins was the Emergency Room Physician at Pender Memorial Hospital. After a year as the physician at Doctor’s Urgent Care Center in Lumberton, Dr. Graham-Hoskins served Bladen County for eight years in private practice with Internal Medicine. In 1995, she joined Bladen Medical Associates as a staff physician practicing Internal Medicine until 2013.

In 2012, Dr. Graham-Hoskins was appointed to the Medical Director’s position of the Hospitalist Program at Bladen County Hospital, a position she still holds. She also currently serves as a Hospitalist Physician for the Cape Fear Valley Health System.

One-hundred-seventy-five BCC graduates will assemble to hear the esteemed medical professional speak. As a 1969 graduate and class Valedictorian of East Arcadia High School, Dr. Graham-Hoskins brings to the 2015 graduating class a success story with a Bladen County heritage.
In 1973, she graduated with honors from Howard University in Washington, D.C. with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. She earned her Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1977. Dr Graham-Hoskins served her Internship at Howard University and her Residency II and III in Internal Medicine at New Hanover Memorial Hospital where she was awarded the 1984 Internal Medicine Resident of the Year Award.

Dr. Graham-Hoskins has received numerous recognitions, including the N.C. Hospital Association Trustee Merit Award, the Charlie Gore Humanitarian Award, Governor Jim B. Hunt’s Outstanding Volunteer Award, the United Negro College Fund Outstanding Citizen Award, the Outstanding Service Award of Tabernacle Holiness Church and the “Entre Nous” Distinguished Service Award for Health Care.

In 2012, Bladen Healthcare awarded the Golden Stethoscope Award and Physician of the Year to Dr. Graham-Hoskins and in 2014, she was named Citizen of the Year by the Kappa Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Dr. Graham-Hoskins has addressed the medical needs of the community through active participation in local and regional civic organizations and agencies. She is a founding Board member and the volunteer Medical Director for the Bladen County Free Clinic. She has served on the Boards of Bladen County Hospital, BB&T Bank, the Bladen County Hospital Foundation, the American Hospital Association, and the North Carolina Hospital Association.

At Bladen County Hospital, her service and committee appointments have included the Chairperson role for the Quality Committee, the Credentials Committee, the Peer Review Committee, the Patient Care Committee, and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Dr. Graham-Hoskins has served as the Medical Director for the Intensive Care Unit and the Cardiopulmonary Department, and as President of the Medical Staff.

An advocate for aspiring nurses, Dr. Graham-Hoskins has consistently accommodated Nurse Practitioner Programs, working with Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Methodist University.

With twenty-six years of service at the Bladen County Hospital, Dr. Graham-Hoskins is impassioned and dedicated to the health and well-being of Bladen County residents. She is the daughter of community advocate Berline Graham and the late Ottis E. Graham, and has two adult sons, Trevor Hoskins II and Ottis Jerome Hoskins.
