Elizabethtown like most everything else, has changed over the past fifty or so years. The Pure Station in the photo contributed by Mr. Hubert Kinlaw was Sampson-Bladen Oil Company’s station, and the building beside the station was their office. Across the road from the old station was Cole’s Dress Store, according to Kinlaw.
The old road, well that is Highway 701 in Elizabethtown. So what is there now?
Now you will see a CVS Pharmacy and a Walgreen’s on the side of the road where the Sampson-Bladen office and gas station were located. On the other side of the road is McDonald’s.
Sampson-Bladen Oil Company moved their office closer to the by-pass. They are located on Highway 701, but they are now on the other side of Highway 87 towards Clarkton.
