Brandon_WardBrandon Quinnard Ward was sentenced Tuesday to between 20 and 33 months in custody for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon under a plea agreement entered in Bladen County Superior Court.

Ward, 31, was arrested Sept. 30, 2015 at his home on South Lower Street in Elizabethtown after officers with the Elizabethtown Police Department and Bladen County Sheriff’s Office conducted a warrantless search of the house, according to court statements. Ward was on probation at the time and subject to warrantless searches.

While detaining Ward, officers heard Patrick Tremaine Rhodie jump out of a bedroom window and gave chase, court officials said in a summary of events. Rhodie was captured and officers found a plastic bag on the ground that contained 2 grams of cocaine. Rhodie was sentenced March 24 to between 15 and 27 months in custody.

During their questioning of Rhodie, investigators said that Ward had a handgun in clothes basket in his bedroom. Officers searched the room and found a semi-automatic handgun and ammunition, which violated terms of Ward’s probation. Ward had been convicted for common law robbery several years ago.

Also during the search, officers found oxycodone, and drug paraphernalia in Ward’s bedroom, according to officials.

Drug-related charges against Ward were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
