skate ramp plans half pipe Car Pictures

Elizabethtown should have a skatepark at Leinwand Park by the end of the month, says Town Manager Eddie Madden.

With help from Fayetteville-based Friends of the Skateparks Foundation and funding from a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant, plans call for a half-pipe skatepark to be ready for use in less than three weeks.

The skatepark building group Team Pain is scheduled to begin work Oct. 19 and it’s expected to take 10 days to complete construction. Team Pain’s work has been featured on Fuel TV’s ‘Rockstar’ show.

“Public skateparks can improve the quality of life of a community by providing alternatives for ‘at risk’ youth to focus their energy away from violence, property damage, drug use and crime,” Madden said in a news release.

Friends of the Skateparks Foundation seeks to benefit youth and the skateboard culture by organizing efforts to get skateparks built.

“Skateboarding is one of the fasting growing sports in the U.S., and has surpassed baseball and football as the healthy activity of choice,” said Terry Grimble, who is president of Friends of the Skateparks Foundation. “Skateboarding is here to stay.”
