DUBLIN – Bladen Community College will welcome over 1,000 students to campus as the fall semester commences this week. The excitement is palpable.
“The staff and faculty of BCC are always energized when students return to campus in the fall,” remarks Jeff Kornegay, Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer. “The excitement of new opportunities and new beginnings prevails among everyone here.”
Because of the Career and College Promise Program, the campus will see a great influx of high school students who will complete college credits while still in high school.
“We have an excellent collaborative relationship with the public school system,” explains Barry Priest, Vice President for Student Services. “High school students can take transferrable college credits while simultaneously receiving high school course credits.”
Additionally, in September, the college will enroll an estimated 70 to 80 Career and Technical Education (CTE) students.
“Our semester enrollment for students in continuing education and workforce development training is typically very strong,” comments Sondra Guyton, Vice President for Workforce and Continuing Education. “Our allied health and EMS curricula continue to be among the most successful programs we offer.”
Guyton continues, “We are also rolling out the NCCER curriculum in many of our curriculum and continuing education vocational programs which will enable our students to earn industry-recognized, portable credentials.” BCC’s collaboration with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) now implements universal certification standards that emphasize safety, productivity, and education within the construction and maintenance industry.
BCC maintains a positive and proactive outreach into the community. With classes on both the Dublin and East Arcadia campuses, the college is committed to providing a way for men and women to get the educational opportunities they need.
The Basic Law Enforcement Training curriculum begins on September 22. The application process is currently underway and students may be eligible for financial assistance and V.A. benefits. Interested candidates should contact John Trogdon at 910 879-5536.
