The town of Tar Heel will soon have a new business in the form of a Hardees restaurant. The restaurant, when completed, will stand at the intersection of NC 87 and Tar Heel Ferry Road.

Tar Heel Mayor Roy Dew said that the location for the restaurant has already been cleared and construction should take about 90 days to complete. The new restaurant will have a seating capacity of 82 people.

A Hardees is also under construction in Elizabethtown at the intersection S. Poplar and Swanzy Streets on the lot in front of Badcock Furniture.

The Hardees restaurant chain was begun by Wilbur Hardee in Greenville, NC in 1960. According to an article that appeared in Our State Magazine,  Hardee used char-grills to give his hamburgers a distinct flavor that was different from the other hamburger chains of that era. Hardee soon left the business that bares his name but never really left the restaurant business.
