Harmony Hall has a newly installed roof thanks to the efforts of Roofing by Tony of Bladenboro. The cost of the repairs to the roof was about $10,500, according to Harmony Hall Plantation Village Inc. President Seth Lewis.

The old roof was well worn and beginning to need repairs, according to Lewis.

“It is a great relief to know the roof work has been completed,” he said.

The roof is now covered in Western Cedar Shake shingles that were produced in Canada and treated to prevent rot and mold. Lewis said this was important because the treatment will extend the life of the roof.

Lewis said the roofers have many years of experience performing this type of work. He said the roof has about three layers of shingles. Lewis explained that by shingling the roof in this manner, it required no felt paper under the shingles. This allows the roof to dry on both the top and bottom.

“By using local people, we were able to save about 50 percent of what it potentially could have cost,” said Lewis.
