Ever wonder what snakes species are at home in eastern North Carolina? Which ones are venomous? Join a park ranger at the Visitor Center in exploring the various snakes in this area and the other unique species found throughout our great state. All About Bears

Compass Course

What would you do if you got lost and only had a compass?  Have you got a compass and do not know what direction to go?  Join a park ranger at 10:00 am for discussion on all the Cardinal points of using a compass.  Participants will use the skills on a compass course.  If you make it through the course your bearings will surely be greased!  Compasses will be provided.  Space is limited, so please call the park office at (910) 588-4550 to reserve your spot or for questions.

Animals of Jones Lake

Ever wondered what a black bear looks like up close?  How about a bobcat, fox, or even a Great Horned Owl?  While we would not advise trying this in the wild, you can get a chance to see some stuffed ones and learn about the different animals found around Jones Lake State Park. This program is free to the public and will begin at 3:00 pm at the Visitor Center.  Please contact the park at (910) 588-4550 with any questions.
