Finding more ways to reach out in the community is what the Kiwanis Club members discussed at their monthly meeting Tuesdayevening. The group heard an update on their fundraising efforts, and decided on other ways to reach out in the community.
Club Treasurer, William Thompson gave a report on the Fifty-Fifty Fear Factor Fundraiser to benefit the club’s children’s programs and the Bladen County Emergency Services Training Facility. Although the total amount raised for each organization is still to be determined, the club was pleased to hear both beneficiaries will receive a nice sized donation.
Thompson also reminded folks t-shirts from the event are still on sale at Thompson Small Engine Repair for only $2 per shirt.
Bradley Kinlaw, Bladen County Emergency Service Director was also in attendance and said he was pleased with the fundraiser too. The group decided to have next year’s Fifty-Fifty Fear Factor Fundraiser the first Saturday in October in hopes to advertise the event longer and avoid the excessive heat.
The club then moved on to discussing their annual pencil drive for each school in Bladen County. Pencils will be donated to each school within the next two weeks on behalf of the Club. Rulers will also be donated.
A Kiwanian Terrific Kid’s program is the next goal for the club to check off. A committee was formed to meet soon to discuss putting the plan for the program into action.
Dr. Lisa Bryan, the club’s Secretary, gave everyone a copy of the by-laws to be voted on at the next meeting. She encouraged everyone to read the information and to give feedback.
Everyone left with smiles seeing progress being made while enjoying each other’s company.
