About 400 people attended the first of two annual fundraisers for Bladen We Care Friday night at The Venue at White Lake.  The ‘Wear White’ Smithfield-Farmland & Murphy Brown LLC Party featured music by the Black Water Rhythm & Blues Band, delicious hors-d’oeuvres, an auction and half and half fundraiser.
According to the organizers, the event was a huge success..Mac Campbell, Jr., Chairman of Bladen We Care, said we were very happy with the outcome….please about the turnout, the support by individuals and the corporate supporters, especially the signature sponsors, Smithfield-Farmland and Murphy Brown, LLC.  It is the second year the two companies have been the overall sponsors.
Bladen We Care was organized 26 years ago to provide financial support for Bladen County residents who find themselves in need because of medical related situations.  The group has no employees, but depends on unpaid volunteers year-round.
The second of the fundraisers is a golf tournament slated for Thursday, April 23 at Vineyard Golf at White Lake, formerly Carolina Sands.  The golf course has been completely rebuilt and according to area golfers, is in the best condition ever.
Already, over 45 teams have signed up to play.  Starting times are available in the AM or PM.  The cost is $125 per person, bring a team or come and be paired with a team.  For more information, call Mac Campbell, Jr at 910-874-4001.
The two fundraisers, along with memorials and donations throughout the year, have provided millions of dollars since its inception in 1989 for those in need in the area.  Bladen We Care often partners with other organizations in the area, including Bladen Baptist and Bladen Crisis Center..
The local Board of Directors includes Campbell, Ann Warner Nye, David Cross, Hayes Petteway, Dr. C. Dave Allen, Norgie Hester, Wesley Campbell, Billy Ray Fisher, Charles & Cathy DeVane, Robert G. Hester and Marvin Tatum.  Tatum was recently added to fill a position left vacant due to the death of Dr. Bruce Phillips, a charter member of the board.
