East Bladen’s defense allowed only one touchdown Wednesday night in football scrimmages at South Columbus against the host Stallions and West Columbus.

“I like the way our defense played,” said East Bladen Coach Robby Priest. “South Columbus scored on their last possession of the scrimmage after running 40 or 50 plays.”

“We still have some work to do,” continued Priest.  “We are young in the secondary with three sophmores – Eian Hines, Ethan Hines and Kyle Tatum – and a senior, but they will get better. ”

Offensively Coach Priest was pleased with the Eagles’ ground attack saying, “We ran it well and moved the ball on them. Farrell (Murchison) had two highlight runs for touchdowns. However, the passing game is going to take some work. ”

Bladen County high school girls volleyball

Uncertainty seems to be what lies ahead for Bladen County's high school volleyball teams. West Bladen lost six players to graduation and East Bladen has only two seniors this season. It will be interesting to see how each team develops this season.

WEST BLADEN

The Knights have made the state playoffs the past three seasons, but have been hit hard by graduation. West Bladen lost six players due to graduation after the 2012 season, and another six after last season, including Mallory Davis, who will be playing volleyball for UNC-Pembroke.

That means Coach Gaye Davis will rely on returning players Morgan Sweeney, Breanna Jackson, Allison Thompson and Krisna Ransom to lead the Knights to a fourth playoff run. West Bladen won the 2-A championship last season in the split Four County 2A/1A Conference.

White Lake Triathlons Scheduled
