West Bladen To Host Second Round Game Wednesday

Coach Travis Pait confirmed this morning that his West Bladen Knights will host a Second Round NCHSAA Class 2-A Play-off game Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Knights will host the winner of tonight's Pittsboro Northwood/Granville Central game. That game was postponed Monday due to Granville County not having school due to the snow in the area.

The confusion over the site was due to some incorrect records being reported to the NCHSAA. The error was not made by either West Bladen or Northwood and was actually brought to the Knights attention by Northwood.

If Northwood wins Tuesday, Wednesday's game will be a rematch of last year's Eastern Regional Semi-Final that Northwood won 53-51.

"We missed some early lay-ups, and just started out slow," said Eagle Coach Ken Cross. Foul trouble hurt the Eagles as the Red Raiders connected on 20 of 41 free throws, while East Bladen only attempted 18 foul shots.

Play-off Seeding Unkind To Bladen Teams

Bladen County basketball teams, fans and coaches were not happy with the NCHSAA play-off pairings that were released Saturday. This was the first year that the NCHSAA has attempted to seed the basketball play-offs.

Among the complaints were not knowing whether their team would be in the East or the Mid-East, the fact that strength of schedule did not figure into the seeding, nor did any of the conference tournament results from this week.

West Bladen Coach Travis Pait pointed out that he and his staff had driven all over the Eastern part of the state scouting the last two weeks only to have his Knights placed in the Mid-East against teams that he had not scouted. "We wasted a lot of gas," he said. "It would have helped to at least have known that we were going to be in the Mid-East."
