West Bladen edged East Bladen 4-3 Wednesday night in Four County Conference Girls Soccer action at West.

“It was a really good match,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor. “It has been awhile since West has beaten us. I know they beat us twice in 2008.

The Lady Knights scored in the first ten minutes of the match, then tacked on another goal shortly thereafter. “Their speed up top gave us a challenge, but we were eventually able to subdue it with our offsides trap, said Coach Raynor. “We were able to trap West offsides 12 times which really made them adjust and not be able to run at us all night.”

After four consecutive walks produced a run, Anna Moser hammered a three-run triple. Grace Anna Glenn reached base on an error, and three more walks made it 6-4.

Kaley Smith smacked a two-run single, and Hannah DeVane drove in another run with a single. A walk to Faith Johnson walked to force in another run.

West Bladen JV 6, Purnell Swett 1  Baseball

Winning pitcher Jeremy Hunt’s three-run double sparked a five-run third-inning that carried West Bladen’s jayvees to a 6-1 non-conference victory over visiting Purnell Swett Thursday.

The Knights avenged their only loss of the season – at Swett by a 4-3 score - with the victory. According to their coaching staff, the Knights played one of their best games of the season in Thursday’s win.

Seth Britt and Donald McCullum drew walks to start the West Bladen first. Both runners advanced on Trent West’s fielder’s choice, and Britt raced home on a wild pitch.

The Rams tied the score in the top of the third as E. Chavis led off with a single and eventually scored the tying run on R. McCrimmon’s single.

Before Thursday's Bladen Five Middle School Conference game that pitted Clarkton against Elizabethtown, the Blue Devils had a 35-game winning streak going.  After the game, Clarkton's in-a-row wins had increased to 36.  The Blue Devils beat Elizabethtown, 13-1, in five innings.  With the win, Clarkton claimed the conference champs title, just as they have done in eight of the last nine years.

Devan Stocks pulled "double duty" for his Blue Devils, pitching all five innings and going 2-for-4 at the plate.  On the mound, Stocks struck out six, walked only one, and gave up two hits.

In the first inning, Stocks was the only Blue Devil to reach base when he hit his first single of the game to right field.  However, he was left stranded on base.
