Elizabethtown Board Holds Special Meeting
Elizabethtown Town Commissioners met in Special Session
at noontime Monday.
They had two items to discuss.
The first was a change order for the sidewalk improvement
project on Cypress Street near the Tall Oaks apartments.
The council contracted with T&H Construction Company of NC,
Inc to build the sidewalks for $44,997.17. The project
has been completed coming in $3,100 below the contract price
at $41,897.17. The change order was needed to balance
The second item on the agenda was
to approve a donation of property from the Charles DeVane
family to the town for the expansion of a proposed
recreation site. The property is at the intersection
of Morehead and Swanzy Street. This property is
adjacent to the lots recently purchased from Richard Allen
(old concrete plant property). Allen sold the town one
lot and donated another. The three parcels will be
used to apply for a PARTF Grant for future expansion of the
town's park. The Devane's will receive a tax credit.
An appraisal was performed by Cox Realty and Appraisal that
determined the donation was valued at $28,000.
Eddie Madden, Town Manager, said the town had $50,000 of
town money in the property, now valued at $400,000.
