Spread the love

NC-Grape-Festival-1The skies above were the only gray thing at the Grape Festival this Saturday, at Lu Mil Vineyard. The crowds were there to enjoy the festivities, the vendors, the yard sales, and the great food and music. The day started with a bit or drizzle and rain, also known as liquid sunshine, but that didn’t last long. Within an hour or so, the rain abated and the day turned out just fine, with the sun peeking through the clouds. Not too hot and not too cold, the temperature was just right, according to this Goldilocks.

Plenty of folks, young and old, took off their shoes and stomped the juice out of the grapes in a competition to see who could squeeze out the most of that sweet, syrupy stuff they use to make that wonderful wine. Many crafters and artists brought their wares, to the delight of all in attendance. There were wreaths and hand made crafts by Devonda Bridgers of Inspired by God Crafts and Gifts. Cara Dodd of Medieval Essence brought her unique jewelry to display, you can see for yourself by visiting her facebook page HERE.

Lauren Kinlaw, of Wren Prints & Productions had her artwork on display. She does lots of different linoleum and lithographic prints, and she even has an amazing coloring book filled with her pen and ink work. You can visit her Facebook page HERE and purchase online easily.

Medeena Rouse was selling her Younigue cosmetics. If you are looking for Younigue products, you can find them HERE.

Professor Alice Green of Robeson Community College asked me if I had S.W.A.G. She said, “That stands for Silk Wraps and Green gifts.” A delightful lady to speak with, Professor Green recycles everything she can and makes a play on her name, (Green) as she is into the Going Green recycling movement.

Angela “Malika” Crovador, representing Organo Coffees and Jafra Cosmetics, poured me the best cup of coffee I’ve had all week, and gave me a free sample to take home. She also had one last tidbit of my all time favorite Jafra perfume called “Risque”, so I snapped it up and counted it my lucky day to make her acquaintance.

D’Vine Foods had a booth offering some of their tasty Apple Cider, Pickled Peppers & Tomatoes, Relishes, and a variety of jellies for the unmatchable price of $1.00 per jar. Another reason to count myself lucky.

Lu Mil also held a wine tasting, (wish I could have gotten in on that) featuring their hometown vintages that have become the favorites for miles around, and if anyone had a taste too much, VIP Limousine Service was on hand to prevent anyone from driving while impaired. 910 670-5388

The musical entertainment really got the audiences toes tapping with the Whiteville-based band “Honey Don’t”, who sang some Goldie Oldies and really rocked the crowd. See the video of their rendition of Elvis’ Hound Dog by CLICKING HERE.

What a great day and a great festival. I’m already looking forward to next year.
