Three Things to KnowGood morning! 3 things to know for Saturday, October 10

1. Anyone know a non-rain dance? The folks at Lu Mil Vineyard and Dublin Motor Speedway hope so. The N.C. Grape Festival is today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the vineyard on Suggs-Taylor Road near Dublin and will include a community yard sale, a grape stomp competition and music. Tonight, the Ultimate Super Late Model series returns to the race track for a $4,000-to-win featured race. However, forecasts call for heavy rain with more than an inch expected.

2. The 9th annual Mike W. Merritt Scholarship Ride is today beginning at the White Lake Fire Department and ending at the Beaver Dam community site in Roseboro. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the motorcyclists will depart at 11 a.m. Cost is $20 for a single and $25 for doubles. Proceeds will benefit the Mike Merritt Scholarship Fund at Bladen Community College. For information, contact Evelyn Merritt at 910 872-1304, Joan Brennan at 910 874-1211, Tina Merritt-Smith at 910 876-2549 or Dale Brennan at 910 874-0726.

3. This little piggy went to market. And a big piggy in Colorado is not. A 650-pound pig likely headed to the slaughterhouse fell off a trailer in Colorado onto Interstate 25 on Sept. 30, the Carbon Valley Times-Call reports. Now, the pig – given the name “Lucky” – resides at Hog Haven Farm after its owner could not be located.

And now you know.
