The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy in Elizabethtown is working to get the campus ready and to develop routes for buses to safely pick up students following the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
Col. Lloyd said there was no damage to the school other than some trees down on the property and a fence that needed minor repairs.
“We didn’t get the power back at the school until Thursday,” said Col. Lloyd.
He said staff at the school were spending Monday determining the best routes to get buses to students in some locations. Col. Lloyd said the Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy is in a different position than the public schools in that their students come from other counties as well as Bladen County.
Col. Lloyd said that there are about 20 students that reside in Robeson County, two students that reside in Hope Mills and students that reside in the Sampson County town of Garland.
Col. Lloyd said one alternative for students is to offer virtual classes for those students that are essentially cut off due to hazardous road conditions.
He said that as soon as the school reaches a decision on when classes will resume, parents will be notified.
