Thunderstorms are a potential threat this weekend, according to the National Weather Service Office in Wilmington.
The front that is producing rain and thunderstorms today (Friday, May 20) will slowly move out of the area bringing possible heavy rain to some areas. A warmer more unstable air mass will be in place on Saturday with potential for some stronger to possibly severe storms. As the low pressure tracks further off to the northeast through Sunday it will drag a cold front through bringing drier and cooler air through early next week.
As a result heavy rain is possible overnight Friday and strong to severe thunderstorms are possible through the day on Saturday with highs reaching 80 degrees.
