Douglas Warner ’87 of Charleston, S.C., will be named the recipient of Presbyterian College’s 2016 Dum Vivimus Servimus award. The award is designed to recognize an alumnus or alumna who exemplifies the meaning of the college’s motto, “While we live, we serve.”
Warner graduated from Presbyterian College with a bachelor’s degree in business and political science. As a student, he was elected president of the student body and Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He was also a leader in the ROTC program and the Student Union Board. He also received a master’s degree from the Citadel in 1991.
After graduation, Warner received a commission in the United States Army Reserves and began his career with First Union National Bank in Charlotte, N.C. He eventually transferred to Charleston because he loved the city’s history, people, proximity to the water, and its overlapping living-working dynamic.
Warner went on to work for the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, The Roper Foundation, and Hill Construction Corp. before he eventually started his own real estate development and auction companies. He was deployed as a reservist to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm and was the Army Junior Officer representative to NATO in 1992 through the Reserve Officer’s Association.
Warner has held leadership positions with the Medical University of South Carolina’s Children’s Hospital Board, the Alliance for Full Acceptance Board, Presbyterian College Board of Trustees and Alumni Board. In addition, Warner has served on the Log Cabin Republican National Board of Trustees and was a founding board member and past president of the Charitable Society of Charleston.
Warner is a licensed auctioneer and has provided pro bono auction services to more than 30 non-profit organizations each year for the past 18 years. Those auctions have raised more than $45 million to support the missions of non-profits across the country. Warner has never accepted payment for this service.
Warner is the son of the late W.M. “Bud” Warner and Ann Warner Nye of White Lake.
