Bladenboro Stats In Elizabethtown Win
The Bladenboro trio of Kerron Washington, Keshawn Lewis and Deshawn Hines combined for 275 yards rushing and scored all 28 Bulldog points as Bladenboro Middle clinched the Bladen Five Conference football championship with a 28-22 victory over Elizabethtown Thursday night.
Washington rushed for 102 yards, two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion. Hines ran for 99 yards and a touchdown. Lewis finished with 74 yards rushing, a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. Lewis was the defensive star for the winners forcing 2 fumbles and making the game-clinching interception.
With 1:30 left to play, Elizabethtown faced a third down and 2 yards to go situation at the Bladenboro 30 yardline. "Our defense stood tall by stringing out a sweep to the wide side of the field and tackled the ball carrier for a 8 yard loss," said Bulldog Coach Richie Love. On fourth-and-10, Lewis picked off a Cougar pass at the Bulldog 20 yardline and returned the ball 25 yards out to the 45 yardline to seal the victory.
"The key to the victory was our ability to run between the tackles and dominate the 'A' gap all night long," said Love.
A win in next Thursday's game with Tar Heel would give the Bulldogs their first undefeated season in five years.
