Franklin Williams scored with 2 seconds
remaining Monday, lifting the West Columbus
Vikings to a 3-2 victory against the West
Bladen Knights in a non-conference game.
Although there were five goals, the game
featured few scoring chances. The Knights
had only five shots on goals and 13 shot
attempts, while West Columbus' five shots
were all on goal. There were 27 fouls
West Columbus scored twice in
the opening 14 minutes, getting goals from
Bryan Ramos and Trent Brown.
Bladen, which didn't record a shot on goal
and only five shot attempts in the first
half, turned up the intensity in the second
half. The Knights pressed the attack from
the beginning of the second half, and
finally got on the board when Victor Jacome
took a throw-in from Michael Pastore near
the West Columbus goal and scored.
West Bladen tied it six minutes later on a
goal by Colby McLean.
It appeared the
game would end in a tie until Williams
managed to slip past the Knights defense in
the closing seconds and kicked a low shot
into the left corner for the game winner.
West Columbus, which had lost at West
Bladen 6-0 a week earlier, evened its record
West Bladen, 2-2, is
scheduled to host Purnell Swett on Wednesday
at 6 p.m. The Knights won an earlier matchup
