school boys' soccer: West Bladen 2, St.
ST. PAULS -- Clay Allen scored a pair of
first-half goals and the West Bladen defense
along with the goaltending of Brett Jackson
made it stand up Wednesday as the West
Bladen Knights edged the St. Pauls Bulldogs
2-1 in a non-conference match.
The victory avenged West
Bladen's lone loss of the season, a 3-1
setback at home against the Bulldogs a week
contest, St. Pauls had more shots on goal
(11-to-7), more shots attempted (26-to-9)
and more corner kicks (9-to-4), but Jackson
and a backline led by John Waldrop, Owen
Peavy, C.J. Singletary, Victor Jacome, Bryan
Colby McLean kept the Bulldogs off the
scoreboard for the final 65 minutes of play.
St. Pauls' lone score came
at the 15 minute mark of the first half when
Erik Perez darted in from the left and
received a nice pass from Hugo Calderon
through the box. Perez, who scored all three
goals for St. Pauls a week ago against the
Knights, booted the ball into the left
corner of the net.
Bladen tied the game in the 34th minute when
Allen, on a direct kick from 45 yards out,
deftly booted the ball over the outstretched
fingers of the St. Pauls goalie and into the
top right corner of the net.
Allen scored again two minutes later from 10
yards out after receiving a pass from Edwin
Labra, then faking out a defender.
Jackson finished the game with 10 saves.
West Bladen improved to 2-1
with the victory. The Knights are scheduled
to host the West Columbus Vikings on
Thursday at 6 p.m. in a makeup game that was
postponed Tuesday due to rain.
St. Pauls is 1-4.
