DYB District 9 Major League Supplemental Tournament Championship West

Robeson American 3, Elizabethtown 2
West Robeson American scored the tying and winning runs on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Supplemental Tournament Championship Tuesday night with a 3-2 victory over Elizabethtown.
Righthander Corey McKoy had limited West Robeson to three hits and one run and carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. However a lead-off double, a wild pitch, a walk and a stolen base put West Robeson runners on second and third base.
The ball bounced to the screen on the next pitch, allowing the runner on third to score the tying run. The throw back to the plate trickled past the pitcher as the runner from second base scooted home with the tournament winning run.
Elizabethtown had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Firstbaseman Jarad Piland laced a single to leftfield and walks to Corey McKoy, Jayson Baxter and Zach Butler forced in Piland with the game’s first run.
Both teams turned in outstanding defensive plays. A fine relay throw from rightfield to third baseman Robert Tisdale cut down a West Robeson runner in the third inning.
With a runner on base in the Elizabethtown fourth, the West Robeson shortstop took away a bloop hit with a running catch in short leftfield as he collided with the leftfielder. On the next play, the thirdbaseman dove for a grounder and threw the batter out at first to end the inning.
A walk and a double produced the tying run for West Robeson in the home half of the fourth.
Grayson Clark hammered a triple down the rightfield line in the top of the fifth and raced home on a wild pitch to put Elizabethtown back on top 2-1.
Clark tripled and scored, and Piland singled and scored to lead the Elizabethtown offense. Allen Owens beat out a bunt single, and RaSean McKoy belted a single for the other Elizabethtown hit.
Corey McKoy finished with a four-hitter, struck out three, walked five and allowed only one earned run in his five-plus innings on the mound.
Elizabethtown received the Runner-up Trophy in the Supplemental Tournament.
