East Bladen 35, Midway 13

East Bladen piled up 531 yards rushing and three Eagles cracked the century mark as the Eagles rolled to a 35-13 victory over visiting Midway Friday night in the Four County Conference opener for both teams.

Senior Farrell Murchison sparked the Eagle ground attack with 13 carries for 213 yards and 3 touchdowns. His brother, fullback Larrell Murchison, picked up 156 yards and a touchdown on just 9 rushes. Sophmore Ethan Hines racked up 136 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

“It’s the first time this year that we’ve had three players rush for over 100 yards,” said East Bladen Coach Robby Priest. “We did it a couple of times last year. I was really pleased with the way the line blocked. That’s a big positive to carry into practice next week.”

Last year the Raiders shocked the Eagles with a 99-yard touchdown pass in the last minute to pull out a 16-13 victory. Midway re-kindled   memories of that game as the Raiders scored an early touchdown on a 37-yard run by Jeremy Robinson. Jackson Carr tacked on the extra point to put Midway up 7-0.

The Eagles answered with a drive to the Midway 30 but the drive stalled. However on the next East Bladen possession, Farrell Murchison broke free and galloped 75 yards for an Eagle touchdown. The extra-point attempt failed and Midway led 7-6 with 36 ticks left in the period.

East Bladen’s next drive ended with Farrell Murchison banging into the end zone from a yard out. Junior quarterback TyQuan McMillian ran the 2-point conversion to put East on top 14-7 with 6:19 remaining before halftime.

The Eagles marched all the way to the goalline late in the first half, but time ran out with East Bladen inches away from the end zone. “We left a bunch of points on the field,” said Coach Priest.

Early in the second half, Ethan Hines circled right end and scampered 20 yards for the touchdown. The conversion attempt failed, but the Eagles still led 20-7 at the 9:41 mark.

On the next Eagle possession, Farrell Murchison beat the Midway defense to the corner and sprinted 53 yards down the left sideline for the touchdown. McMillian kept the ball and scored the 2-point conversion on a run as the East lead grew to 28-7 with 2:47 remaining in the quarter.

Midway’s Robinson who rushed for 75 yards on 16 attempts ran 4 yards for another Raider touchdown. The conversion failed and East led 28-13 with 10:23 left to play.

The Eagles answered quickly as Larrell Murchison plowed through the line and bolted 48 yards for the final East Bladen touchdown. Jesus Ramos booted the extra point to stretch the Eagle lead to 35-13 with 9:11 left.

East Bladen finished with 550 total yards, while Midway was limited to 132 yards rushing and 60 passing.

The Eagles improved to 4-1 overall and will host unbeaten Clinton next Friday.
