Bladen County Special Olympics Spring Games (2)

The Bladen County Special Olympics is set to take place on Thursday, April 28, with opening ceremonies beginning at 10 a.m. at the Elizabethtown Middle School football field.  The theme for this year’s event is “What is Your Superpower?”

The event was originally scheduled for Friday, April 22, but the date had to be moved due to inclement weather.

The day will begin with the Special Olympics torch being brought to the football field by local enforcement agencies. Bladen County Chief Deputy Larry Guyton said the Bladen County Law Enforcement torch run will begin at the Carolina Petro Mart located at S. Poplar and Broad Streets in Elizabethtown, travel down S. Poplar Street, to the football field at Elizabethtown Middle School.

Roberts said there will be displays provided by the various police departments and county fire departments, there will be bounce houses provided by the Bounce Brothers,  DJ Chris will be playing your musical favorites and face painting and an appearance by Buster the Bus.

Roberts also said that Mickey and Minnie Mouse will be on hand to cheer on the athletes as well as Spiderman.

The athletes will take part in various games and events including track, softball, baseball, bocce, developmental games, and Olympic Town, said Roberts. She said the athletes enjoy taking part in the games and look forward to the event each year.
