Bladen County Teen Court is gearing up for another year. In order to prepare the youth participants for their various roles, trainings were recently held in a two-part series. The attorney training was Monday September 19. Assistant District Attorney, Quintin McGee,
spoke to youth attorneys about opening statements, closing statements, objections, questioning witnesses and defendants. Mr. McGee will be assisting with court this year. We are looking forward to him working with us.
The second part of training was conducted on Monday September 26 at the Bladen County Cooperative Extension Office. Johnice Autry, Teen Court Program Coordinator, welcomed new and returning volunteers. She spoke on what the program was about, courtroom procedure, proper behavior, expectations of serving as a juror, and covered the bailiff and clerk of court nduties. She also discussed the community service benefits that come from volunteering.
Volunteers met and socialized with other youth from the various schools. Smithfield Hog Production provided hotdogs, chips and the fixings. Teen Court would like to thank them for all of their support.
