I am a huge gospel music fan….Every now and then I hear a song that sticks with me…..Most recent is The McKamey’s recording of ‘Unspoken Request’….My guess is that most of us have ‘unspoken request’…..
Weekend is approaching….some time off to clean up debris left by the wind and rain….and how about a high school football game to ‘kick off” the weekend?
Tonight, East Bladen High school will celebrate Homecoming…..and Breast Cancer Awareness Month…Pender High will be the Eagles opponent. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
West Bladen will host Trask………..at 7:30 p.m.
Next Friday, West Bladen will host Pender for their Homecoming…
Racing Saturday night at the Dublin Motor Speedway…a full slate….

Bladen County is losing both old, old bridges over the Cape Fear River….The Tar Heel bridge is now on a barge on the river at the site and the NC 11 bridge will ‘come down’ before the end of the year….For years there were three…The 701 bridge came down several years ago….
Jiggs Powers, Sports Editor of the Whiteville News Reporter, was a one-of-a-kind sports writer….I discovered a Powers article featuring Vic Davis, Bladenboro Bulldog pitcher in the 50s The date of the article was December 22, 1980. Vic fanned 26 Riegels of Riegelwood while playing for the Whiteville Leafs in the ‘old’ Cape Fear League in the late 50’s. Vic played several years in the San Francisco Giants organization. He spent a short time with the big league team. Last report I had was…Vic was retired and living in the Cary area. Powers died in 1997.
