Property tax bills have been mailed, I decided to pay early. Then I decided to ride by the new detention center. Wanted to check my investment, granted, my small portion of the total cost will pay for very little. Commissioners were told by a judge to build or else (maybe not those exact words, but close). The cost of the new facility is in the $20 million range. And I must confess, it was long overdue.
I ride by the new construction at the intersection of US 701 & NC 87 bypass and am amazed at the changes taking place. I do not condemn the decision, as some do. No idea how traffic numbers compare with similar sites across the state, but when you think about the cost, plus the price of 2 new bridges recently constructed across the Cape Fear River on NC 11 and near Tar Heel and the cost of the jail, the total cost most likely exceeds $60 million. Pretty good investment in Mother Bladen.
A break in the hot weather is most welcome.
Our average high temps for August in Bladen County is 88, average lows 68. Looking to September, average high is 83 and average low drops to 62.
So, while the hot air rhetoric associated with presidential campaigns continue to rise, our local temps drop.
Incidentally, while we are comparing weather notes, our average rainfall for August is 5.94 inches and 5.28 for September.
In my lifetime, never seen presidential candidates with more negatives. Sorry, just one opinion. Lord help us.
