As we prepare to say farewell to 2016, we decided to take a look back at our Top 15 Most Viewed Stories of the Year.

These stories are the ones you, our readers, found most interesting during the year. Many of your favorite stories dealt with crime and the courts and a few dealt with our schools and a car crash.

Our number one most viewed story of the year by far was Weekend Crash on US 701 Results in Two Fatalities. The story describes the tragic crash that claimed the lives of a mother and her young daughter. Kenneth Haseldon was charged in the case. 

2. Co-owner of White Lake businesses indicted by Bladen County Grand Jury. A co-owner of a popular White Lake business has been indicted by a Bladen County Grand Jury with multiple sex offenses following a complaint from a parent about a child being improperly touched while working at the business.

3. Be Aware! Kirby Van is not trying to sell vacuums. Many of you reported strange encounters with a Kirby Van attempting to sell vacuums after 9 p.m. It seems since our original reporting on this incident the Kirby Van is still making its rounds.

4. Tragic crash involving farm tractor and vehicle results in fatality. A tragic wreck involving a farm tractor and a motor vehicle resulted in a fatality. According to an eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous, off-duty Elizabethtown Police Detective D. Cheshire was at his mother’s home, which is located near the crash site, and immediately responded to the scene to assist the victims.

5. Hamilton Charged with Murder in Tar Heel Woman’s DeathKelly Dwayne Hamilton has been charged with murder in the shooting death of Crystal Lynn McLamb, according to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.

6. Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Elizabethtown.  A collision between a pedestrian and a motor vehicle resulted in a fatality. Kyasia Hayes, 16, was struck killed as she and several others were walking east along Broad Street in the vicinity of Danaher

7. Sampson County Family is searching for missing son. A Garland family was searching for their missing son. It was out of character for him to be gone from home for an extended period of time. He was later found safe. 

8. Body of missing tuber located at White Lake.  The search for a missing inner-tuber at White Lake has came to an end after the body of the missing inner-tuber was located. According to reports, the missing tube rider was been identified as Kendrick Lavor Dials, 36, of Florence, SC.

9.  Three charged in connection with larcenies from White Lake.  The White Lake Police Department has charged three people in connection to a series of larcenies that took place between Oct. 25 and Nov. 7, 2015. The investigation revealed the suspects were stealing kayaks, yard swings, and lawn mowers, and then selling the stolen items using social media websites.

10. $3 million bond set for Montise MitchellMontise Arman Mitchell had his bond set at $3 million on a first degree murder charge in the shooting death of a Dublin man in November. Mitchell is one of four people charged with first degree murder in the shooting that occurred at the intersection of Twisted Hickory Road and Center Road near Dublin about 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2015.

11. One killed, one injured in head-on collision near Bladenboro.  One person was killed and another was seriously in a head-on collision in August.Karen Jordan Hair of Village Street in Bladenboro died while Carlie Weldon Strickland of Cemetery Road in Bladenboro was transported by helicopter to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

12. Teen in Critical Condition: hit by car after being chased at haunted house.  A teenager was hit by a vehicle after being chased by a man welding a chainsaw coming from a local haunted house, according to a state trooper on the scene. The accident occurred on N.C. 211 close to the railroad crossing at Abbottsburg and east of Twisted Hickory.

13. Bladenboro man killed in single-car accident. A Bladenboro man was killed in a single car accident after the vehicle he was driving hit a guardrail, struck a concrete barrier, then landed on an embarkment on U.S. 701 at Turnbull Creek Bridge.

14. Bladenboro shooting leaves one dead. A shooting on Lewis Street in Bladenboro left one person dead. An arrest was later made in the case.

15. Man shot after an exchange of gunfire with officers in Elizabethtown.  Two law enforcement officers were involved in a shooting this year that sent a wanted man to the hospital following an exchange of gunfire during a traffic stop in Elizabethtown.
