With Bladen County unemployment running among the highest in North Carolina our local industries are providing much needed jobs for thousands of Bladen County citizens. In the past most of our employment was connected, in some way, to agriculture and small manufacturing.
Not so this year. This year’s top 10 employers are more diversified. Smithfield Foods is our top employer. Coming in second place is the Bladen County School System. Third is Gildan Yarns while the County of Bladen employees the fourth most employees. Cape Fear Valley
Bladen County Hospital is listed fifth. In sixth place is Danaher Controls and Packer Sanitation Services is seventh. Bladen Community College ranks eighth with the N.C. Department of Transportation coming in ninth and Richmond Cold Storage rounding out the list at tenth.
