A pair of defending state champions will meet in Saturday’s opening round of the Dixie Pre-Majors World Series in Guntersville, Alabama.

West Bladen, which has represented North Carolina in the past two World Series, including the 2013 tournament in Guntersville, will play the defending Alabama state champion, Ozark, at 11 a.m. Eastern Time at Bill Moore Field at the town’s Parks and Recreation Center.

Three other defending state champions also are in the 12-team, double elimination tournament that is scheduled to end Wednesday. They are Paris, Texas; Halifax/South Boston, Virginia; and the 2014 World Series champion Pine Belt, Mississippi. Pine Belt is appearing in the World Series for the third straight year.

If West Bladen loses its opener, the Knights will play the Virginia-Mississippi loser on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. Sunday’s game for West Bladen will be played at Guntersville High School.

Opening ceremonies are scheduled Friday night at Civitan park. The event will include a dinner, live music, introduction of all the players and coaches, and conclude with a fireworks show.
