Bladen County has been working hard to build relationships between the community and law enforcement officers this year. Law enforcement officers in Bladen County have been seen out in the community giving out gifts, protecting the citizens from drivers under the influence and more. “Adopt a Cop” made sure the officers protecting us were not left out of the gift giving this year.

The “Adopt a Cop” program was organized earlier this year by a group of law enforcement wives. The idea behind the program was to have citizens from around the county to “adopt” an officer. The adopter would write a note to the officers voicing their support and offering prayers.

The program took off like a wild fire with donations for the officers to receive gifts along with the thank you notes back in the summer of this year. The group of citizens and businesses made sure the “Adopt a Cop” program, purchased gifts to insure every Cop had a Christmas too.

“It’s nice to be able to give back to law enforcement because they put their lives on the line for us every day. I know some have even gone in together to help the elderly in their time of need this holiday season,” one anonymous gift giver said.

The bags of goodies were delivered on Wednesday this week to the different law enforcement agencies in our county according to Melonie Davis, one of the program organizers.
