An update of road openings / closings for Bladen County is as follows:
OPENINGS:
NC 242
The box culvert construction on NC 242 located south of Sweet Home Church Road is complete (a.k.a. the Jones Lake Overflow). As a result, the southernmost detour on NC 242 using US 701 and SR 1511 is abolished. There remains a detour farther north for the remaining closure near SR 1509 Johnsontown Road (see detailed information below).
Cromartie Road
Cromartie Road re-opened Friday afternoon around 5:30 p.m.
CLOSINGS:
NC 242
NC 242 remains closed at a location 0.1 miles north of Johnsontown Road in order to complete the last of three major storm repairs on NC 242. The shortest detour for Thru traffic remains the signed detour that is posted. A signed detour route is in effect to use Johnsontown Road to Jack Richardson Road and Old Fayetteville Road. The contractor has until 3/31 to complete this work, but right now they are a week or so ahead of schedule (assuming this great weather holds on).
Owen Hill Road
Owen Hill Road remains closed west of NC 87Business. The contractor plans to begin work week after next.
ELWELL FERRY
The Elwell Ferry is operating.
